Roof repairs
Leaks traced to the actual cause, not sealed over at the nearest stain.
Most leaks are not a reason to replace a roof. A slipped slate, a failed flashing or a blocked valley will let water in just as well as a worn out covering, and costs a fraction to put right. We find the actual cause rather than sealing over the symptom.
Repairs we carry out
Slipped and broken tiles or slates
Individual units replaced and properly fixed. On older slate roofs we use tingles or re-hook rather than smearing mortar across the course.
Leadwork and flashings
Failed lead around chimneys, valleys, abutments and dormers is one of the most common causes of a leak. We strip the old lead out and form new to code, rather than running a bead of sealant along it.
Ridge and hip repairs
Loose ridge tiles are a safety issue as much as a leak. We re-bed and re-point, or convert to a dry ridge system so it does not come loose again.
Valley and gutter leaks
Blocked or split valleys back water up under the covering. We clear, repair or reline them and check the fall on the guttering while we are up there.
Storm damage
After high winds we can make a roof safe quickly and give you the photographs and written detail your insurer will ask for.
How we work
- We find the cause. Water tracks along timbers before it drops, so the stain on your ceiling is rarely under the hole. We trace it properly.
- You see the evidence. Photographs of what is wrong, before and after, every time.
- Straight answer on what it needs. If a repair will hold, we will tell you. If the covering is finished and a repair is money down the drain, we will tell you that too.
Frequently asked questions
How quickly can you come out to a leak?
For an active leak we will get to you as fast as we can and, where the weather allows, make it safe on the first visit even if the full repair needs to come back.
Is it worth repairing an old roof?
Often, yes. A roof with sound timbers and one failed area is worth repairing. A roof where the covering itself has perished across the whole slope is not, because you will be back within the year. We will say which one you have got.
Will my insurance cover storm damage?
Most policies cover storm damage but not gradual wear. What usually decides it is the quality of the evidence, so we photograph everything and write the report in the detail insurers expect.
Do you charge for a call out?
We will tell you before we come whether there is a charge and what it is. You will never get an invoice for something nobody mentioned.
