Roofing

Fascias, soffits and guttering

Old timber stripped out rather than capped over, gutters hung to fall.

The boards and gutters at the edge of your roof are what stop rainwater running down the wall. When they rot or split, the damage moves inside, and the first sign is usually a green stain down the brickwork.

What we replace

Fascia boards

The board the gutter hangs off. We take the old timber right off rather than capping over it, because capping hides rot instead of removing it.

Soffits

The underside of the overhang, in ventilated UPVC so the roof space still breathes. Blocked ventilation causes condensation in the loft.

Bargeboards and cladding

The gable edge boards, replaced to match the fascia so the whole edge of the roof looks like one job.

Guttering and downpipes

New UPVC in the profile and colour you want, hung to the correct fall so it drains rather than sits. Cast iron replaced or repaired where the property calls for it.

How we do it

  1. Strip the old timber off. Every time. Capping over rotten fascia is quick, cheap and stores up a much bigger problem.
  2. Check the rafter feet. With the fascia off we can see whether the ends of the rafters have gone. If they have, they get repaired before the new board goes on.
  3. Fit and set the falls. New boards fixed, gutters hung to fall to the outlet, brackets at proper centres so they do not sag.
  4. Test with water. We run water through before we call it done.

Frequently asked questions

What is capping over and why do you not do it?

Capping means screwing new UPVC over the existing timber fascia instead of removing it. It looks the same on day one and costs less. It also traps rotten wood behind plastic where you cannot see it and it keeps rotting. We take the timber off.

How do I know if my fascias need replacing?

Flaking paint, soft or dark timber, gutters that sag or overflow, and green staining down the wall underneath. If the gutter has pulled away from the board, the board has usually gone.

Can you match my existing colour?

UPVC comes in white, black, grey, rosewood, oak and more. We will match what is already there or change it, whichever you prefer.

Do you clear gutters as well?

Yes. Clearing and checking gutters is a small job on its own and it is worth doing before autumn rather than after a leak.
